From the 12/20 Show - President Obama Doesn't Understand the Danger of OxyContin

December 21, 2009 23:27 by larry

The radio show played a news clip from CBS on December 4th.  President Obama took questions from a gathering at Lehigh Carbon Community College in Schnecksville, Pa.  The question from a young man in the audience was if the President would consider legalizing drugs, prostitution, gambling or nonviolent crimes?  There was laughter within the audience from the question and our President simply said with a smile;  "I appreciate the boldness of your question, that will not be my job strategy."

The radio show was critical that the President of the United States deflected a question concerning drugs before a group of college students.  Illegal drug use is reportedly approaching 25% of our college population, marijuana continues to make inroads into our high schools, unemployed people who use drugs continues to increase,  our drug companies continue to produce as much addictive product as possible, the inner city has been devastated by drug use,  every community and police department in the United States is combating the increase in drug related crimes,  and we have a President who did not say a word about the increase in the number of families  being affected by the drug epidemic in our country.

In my opinion, this administration is a disaster concerning drug policy and when you have the President of the United States being asked a pointed question about drugs and the best he can do is make a half hearted joke would indicate what the moral compass of this country is thinking.  In hindsight, I wonder if the President would have answered the question differently if one of his daughters became addicted or died after taking her first Oxycontin tablet.
