From the 9/6 Show - What Does Governor Crist Have Against Families

September 7, 2009 09:22 by larry

The radio show remains critical of all politicians who continue to remain silent on the epidemic of addiction and deaths being created from prescription drugs.  With Charlie Crist as our Govenor who is running for the U.S. Senate next year he remains the most visible concerning the hypocrisy of our politicians.  On a recent blog (6/21 Post) I asked why the Governor allowed the recent Drug Monitoring Bill to pass when he knew that the law would not stop the distribution of OxyContin to a young person.  Crist knows full well that people will continue to come from other states to visit Florida’s proliferation of pain clinics and newest tourist attraction.

Last week it was reported that Crist signed off on a $6.8 billion dollar gambling deal with the Seminole Tribe that will generate $150 million a year in payments to the state.  The state legislature must still approve the deal, but with the moral depravity of most of our politicians today signing off on a bill that may be harmful to families who will be hurt by the increased marketing and public acceptance of gambling will probably be an afterthought.  It is claimed that 97% of the money will be used for “education” and 3% will go to local governments.   All should remember how the state lottery was going to help education.  “Education” is a great selling point with no substance.   The setting aside of money to prevent and treat a greater number of people affected by a gambling addiction was not mentioned in the article any more than the prevention and treatment of drug addiction in the recent passage and implementation of the Florida Drug Monitoring Bill.

It appears that drugs and gambling are two key ingredients in Charlie Crist’s run for the 2010 Senate seat.  The problem is:  what politician is going to stand up for so many families who are affected by drug and gambling addiction before Governor Crist goes on to the next level of the political ladder.
