From the 8/23 Show – Civil Liberties and Drugs for Our Kids

August 24, 2009 10:26 by larry

The show took issue with a piece on You Tube from the Drug Policy Alliance Network.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Jywi9PbsKs    To paraphrase, I interpreted the Drug Policy Alliance rationalizing for the potentially easy access children will have to illicit drug use as the liberalization and legalization of our drug laws continues to move forward.  On the Drug Policy Alliance Network web site they claim to be the “nation’s leading organization working to end the war on drugs”.  It appears to this author that the Drug Policy Alliance Network is filled with hypocrisy in their message.  For a speaker to proselytize that our government’s drug laws are contrary to the civil liberties granted in the constitution completely ignores the damage a society will face with an unencumbered message concerning drugs.  We all want freedom, but a civilized society must make decisions based on what is healthy for the society as a whole.

I personally prefer procedures and laws in place that will prevent a young person from experimenting with addictive substances that may potentially change their lives forever.  I continue to question the logic and motivation behind organizations that garner money for a message that pushes for liberalization and no solutions for preventing the safety of our children. Too many unsuspecting adults still don’t understand how dangerous the drugs they never saw as baby boomers are today.  OxyContin, Vicodin, Percocet and Vyvanse are not the drugs we saw in the 70’s.  Heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine are now in almost every community in America.
