Great show that highlighted the challenge of teaching our children about prescription drugs in the schools. It turns out that the biggest challenge is teaching the adults.
Children can’t carry a Tylenol at school (zero tolerance) and fewer 8th graders than ever before think that marijuana is dangerous. A teacher can smoke marijuana on the week-end, be on OxyContin and teach your child about drug abuse. The adults continue to ignore the statistics on the dangers of marijuana (oh, yea - alcohol is worse so marijuana is ok) and don’t have a clue about the dangers of the opium based products the FDA continues to ignore.
A child can grow up on prescription medications and think that all prescription medications are safe. Where do we start to not only change the mindset of our schools, but our communities and public leaders as well?
